The dispute centers on the company’s bonus plan. The union said 1,994 members voted in favor of strike action, accounting for 99% of those who cast ballots, though the timing and other details are still under discussion. Micron employs about 15,000 people in Taiwan, with separate unions in Taoyuan and Taichung. Together, the two unions represent more than 80% of Micron’s workforce in Taiwan. The company’s Taiwan operations are its largest manufacturing base, and the island is a key production hub for Micron’s DRAM and high-bandwidth memory chips, both important components for AI servers. The report said mediation with the Taoyuan union failed to reach an agreement in September, while the Taichung union remains in talks. In September, Micron announced fiscal 2026 awards for more than 60,000 employees globally, saying the company had experienced an “extraordinary year.” Employees in Taiwan received a cash bonus of NT$1 million, or about $31,400. The Taoyuan union said the plan did not address its demand for a permanent profit-sharing mechanism and criticized Micron for announcing the award before reaching an agreement with the union during mediation.20
